Previously, I outlined the 7 dimensions of soul-care and one of them is emotional alignment. This dimension feels much more difficult to maintain because it requires confronting painful traumas.
At some point, my blog archives will be filled with a variety of different self-care oriented posts. One series will be centered around emotion work, which is a process that people use to make emotional sense of different circumstances. Being a person who is often labeled as overly emotional, I’ve had to come up with strategies that will allow me to feel the emotion in a more organized and logical manner. There are times where I just need to let it all out without rules and constraints but on a day to day, I can’t live my best life like an ocean of emotion. Too much-unfiltered emotion can hurt relationships and hinder your performance.
In an effort to express how I feel without all the repercussions I write letters. Most of the time I keep them to myself or share as necessary. Moving forward, as part of my self-care routine I’ll take from some letters and write deep work posts. They’ll look like open letters or thought vomit but they’ll serve as examples of how to deal with complex emotional and personal experiences. Deep work posts are articles designed to give me closure and inspire deeper thinking for individuals who struggle with making sense of their emotions.
I hope that my “Deep Work” posts can be used to inspired healing in others. The concept is rooted in the 5 Core Values of Black women’s self-care by research expert, Dr. Paris Adkins-Jackson. Each piece listed below is intimately written and shared for the healing of the universe. As new pieces are posted, I’ll update the list below:
